Frequently Asked Questions

Tekpul Customers Ask

Setup & Installation

How hard is it to set up a Tekpul camera? Most customers are up and running in under 10 minutes. Download the app, plug in the camera, scan the QR code, and follow the on-screen prompts. No tools required for indoor cameras — outdoor cameras just need a screwdriver for the mounting bracket. We're currently producing step-by-step setup videos for every camera in our lineup. Check back soon or subscribe to our newsletter to get notified when they go live.

Which app do I need? Here's the breakdown by product:

Product App Available On

5MP Outdoor Camera CloudEdge iOS & Android
Mini WiFi Camera See product page for details iOS & Android
Smart WiFi Door Lock Treatlife iOS & Android
Wireless Door Chime See product page for details iOS & Android

We're testing every product in-house right now and will update this table with confirmed app details and direct download links shortly.

Does my WiFi need to be a specific type? Our 5MP indoor and outdoor cameras support dual-band WiFi (both 2.4GHz and 5GHz). During initial setup, connect to your 2.4GHz band first — the camera will auto-switch to 5GHz afterward if your router supports it. The Smart WiFi Door Lock connects via Bluetooth to the included gateway, which then connects to your WiFi network. Most modern routers work without any changes.

Do I need to hire someone to install the cameras? No. Every Tekpul product is designed for DIY installation. Indoor cameras sit on a flat surface or mount with two screws. Outdoor cameras mount with the included bracket and hardware. The Smart Door Lock replaces your existing deadbolt with just a Phillips screwdriver — no new holes, no wiring. The Door Chime sensors mount with peel-and-stick adhesive.

Can I use the cameras without WiFi? The cameras need WiFi for app access, live viewing, and alerts. However, if WiFi drops temporarily, cameras with an SD card inserted will continue recording locally. You can review that footage once the connection is restored. The Smart Door Lock works fully offline for fingerprint, keypad, and key entry — WiFi is only needed for remote app access.

Storage & Subscriptions

Do I need to pay a monthly subscription? No. Every Tekpul camera supports local micro SD card storage (up to 256GB) with no subscription required. Your footage is stored on the card, in the camera, in your home. Some cameras also offer free cloud storage as an additional option — but it's never required.

What size SD card do I need? We recommend a 64GB or 128GB micro SD card for most users. A 128GB card holds roughly 12–14 days of continuous recording at 5MP resolution. Cards up to 256GB are supported. Use a reputable brand (Samsung, SanDisk, Kingston) rated Class 10 or U1 minimum for reliable performance.

Is an SD card included? SD cards are not included with any camera. This keeps our prices low and lets you choose the storage size that works for you.

Is cloud storage free? Our 5MP indoor and outdoor cameras offer a free cloud storage tier through the CloudEdge app. There's no mandatory paid plan. You can use cloud storage, local SD storage, or both simultaneously.

Where is my footage stored? That depends on your setup. With an SD card, footage is stored physically inside the camera — no data leaves your home network. If you enable cloud storage, clips are uploaded to encrypted servers. You choose which option to use, or use both for redundancy. We believe your security footage is your business, not ours.

Features & Compatibility

Do Tekpul cameras work with Alexa and Google Assistant? Yes. Our 5MP indoor and outdoor cameras are compatible with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. You can pull up live feeds on an Echo Show, Fire TV, Nest Hub, or any Chromecast-enabled display using voice commands like "Alexa, show me the front door camera."

Does the Smart Door Lock work with Alexa? Yes — the lock connects to Alexa through the included Bluetooth gateway for voice-controlled locking. For security reasons, voice unlock is not supported (you wouldn't want someone outside your door yelling "Alexa, unlock the front door"). The lock is not currently compatible with Apple HomeKit or SmartThings.

What is auto-tracking? Our 5MP cameras use AI-powered auto-tracking. When the camera detects motion, it physically pans and tilts to follow the movement across the room or yard. A person walks from the driveway to the porch — the camera follows them the entire way. You get continuous footage of the event instead of a single static frame.

Do the cameras have two-way audio? Yes. Every Tekpul camera has a built-in microphone and speaker. You can listen in on what's happening and talk back through the app in real time — check in on kids, tell a delivery driver where to leave a package, or warn an unwanted visitor that they're being recorded.

Can I set privacy zones? Yes. The camera app lets you define zones within the camera's view that are blocked from recording. If your camera's field of view includes a neighbor's window or a public sidewalk, you can mask those areas for their privacy and yours.

What is privacy mode? Our indoor cameras have a physical privacy mode — one tap in the app and the lens physically moves to a blocked position. It's not a software toggle. The camera is mechanically unable to see or record. Turn it on when you're home, turn it off when you leave.

Outdoor Cameras

Are the outdoor cameras weatherproof? Yes. Our 5MP outdoor camera carries an IP65 weatherproof rating, which means it's fully dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction. It handles rain, snow, heat, and humidity. Mount it on an eave, fence post, or exterior wall and it'll run year-round.

Do the outdoor cameras have night vision? Yes, with three modes. Color night vision uses the built-in spotlight to capture full-color footage after dark. Infrared mode provides clear black-and-white footage without any visible light (stealth mode). Smart mode auto-switches between the two based on ambient light conditions. Night vision range is up to 30 feet.

Do the outdoor cameras have a siren? Yes. The outdoor camera has a built-in siren and spotlight that can activate together when motion is detected. The sudden combination of bright light and loud alarm is designed to deter intruders before they reach your door. You can trigger it automatically on motion events or manually from the app.

How long is the power cable for the outdoor camera? The included power cable is 6.7 feet. For longer runs to reach an outdoor outlet, use a weatherproof-rated extension cord. The camera requires a wired power connection — it is not battery-powered.

Smart Door Lock

Will the Smart Door Lock fit my door? The lock fits most standard US doors with the following specs: door thickness of 35–54mm (1.4"–2.1") and a backset of 60mm or 70mm (adjustable). It replaces your existing deadbolt — no new holes needed. If your current deadbolt is a standard single-cylinder, this lock will almost certainly fit.

How many fingerprints and codes can it store? Up to 100 fingerprints and 100 PIN codes. That's more than enough for a large household, plus guest codes, cleaning service, dog walker, and anyone else you want to grant access.

What happens if the battery dies? You'll get low-battery alerts through the app with roughly 80 uses remaining — plenty of warning to swap in fresh batteries. If the battery dies completely, there's a USB-C emergency port on the bottom of the lock. Touch any phone charger to it for a few seconds and you'll have enough power to unlock. Three backup mechanical keys are also included for true emergencies.

Can I give temporary access to guests? Yes. You can generate one-time codes or time-limited codes through the Treatlife app. Give your Airbnb guest a code that expires at checkout. Give your house cleaner a code that works on Tuesdays from 10am–2pm. When access should end, the code stops working automatically — no keys to collect.

Orders & Shipping

How long does shipping take? Most orders ship within 1–2 business days and arrive within 5–7 business days via standard shipping. You'll receive tracking information by email as soon as your order ships.

Do you offer free shipping? Orders over $75 ship free. For orders under $75, shipping is calculated at checkout based on your location.

What is your return policy? We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all products. If you're not satisfied, contact us within 30 days of receiving your order and we'll make it right — refund, exchange, or replacement. Products must be in original condition with all included accessories.

Do you offer a warranty? Yes. Our Smart Door Lock includes an 18-month manufacturer warranty. Camera warranty details vary by product — contact us for specifics. We stand behind everything we sell and our support team is based in the US.

Bundles & Savings

What's the advantage of buying a bundle? Bundles save you money compared to buying each product individually, and they're designed for common use cases. The Front Door Starter Pack pairs an outdoor camera with a smart lock for complete entry point coverage. The Whole Home Security Kit covers both indoor and outdoor with four cameras. Every bundle ships as a single order with everything you need.

Can I mix and match cameras in a bundle? Our current bundles are pre-configured for the most common setups. If you need a custom combination, you can purchase individual cameras and still save — keep an eye on our homepage for rotating promotions and discount codes.

Troubleshooting

My camera won't connect to WiFi during setup. This is the most common setup issue and it's almost always a WiFi band problem. Try these steps:

  1. Make sure your phone is connected to your router's 2.4GHz network during setup (not 5GHz)
  2. Ensure your router's 2.4GHz band is enabled — some mesh systems combine bands automatically
  3. Move the camera closer to your router for initial setup, then relocate it afterward
  4. Restart the camera by unplugging it for 10 seconds, then plugging it back in
  5. Hold the reset button until you hear the voice prompt, then start the setup process fresh

If you're using a mesh WiFi system (Eero, Google Wifi, Orbi), you may need to temporarily lock the network to 2.4GHz for the initial pairing. The camera will auto-switch to 5GHz once connected.

I'm not receiving motion alerts. Check these settings in the app: make sure notifications are enabled for the camera, verify that motion detection is turned on and the sensitivity is set appropriately (too low and it misses events, too high and you get alerts for every shadow). Also confirm that your phone's notification permissions for the camera app are enabled in your phone's system settings — this is a separate toggle from the in-app setting.

The app shows the camera is offline. First, check that the camera is still powered on (look for the status LED). Then check your WiFi — if your internet went down temporarily, the camera may need a moment to reconnect. Try pulling down to refresh in the app. If the camera remains offline, unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it back in. If the issue persists after a power cycle, you may need to re-add the camera through the app's setup process.
